gasworks park

Headed to Gasworks Park a few weekends ago during Caroline and Kristin's visit. There were these two guys in helmets and suits that were attached to these wind chutes (I have no idea what they are really called). They didn't really go anywhere, but it was fun to watch. They would hover up and down about 10 feet. We all morbidly hoped they might catch the wind and end up in Lake Union. Would have been a very cold dip. We picked up some cupcakes at a great shop call Trophy Cupcakes and some milk at the grocery before our park adventure. It was an afternoon of sugar, city and Seattle sun. Can't wait for Summertime.

new chairs

So, I found some chairs on Craigslist. Four Scandinavian chairs with this lovely blue upholstery. The lady that sold them said her neighbor offered her double what she potsed them for and she stayed true to her posting... thank goodness. Got them home and went on a fabric hunt. Still trying find the equivalent of a Forsyth or Lewis and Sheron, but did end up finding some snazzy fabric at a fabric store up the street. Will helped me with disassembly and pulling staples out. We got them done in a Sunday afternoon, and have been enjoying our new seating since. Here's the after photo too. I'm happy with how they turned out. Slowly chipping away at the home projects. It's been fun discovering new sources for home decor. Next is tackling the living room. Have a ways to go in there.

must love dogs

I have found that people here in Seattle love their pets. Whether it be a cat, dog, bird, or whatever, there are some major pet lovers in this city. It's great for me, because I so miss having a dog around, and having them all around helps appease my void. Dogs sit outside of Costco (pictured left in the motorcylcle), coffeeshops, restaurants, really just about anywhere. Lucy, you would LOVE it!

This big drooly guy was outside of the sushi restaurant near the house. He was a cutie. The next on the bench was the sweetest dog that chilled out while his parents had breakfast at Dish (a new favorite breakfast spot). They leave his treats with him, for people waiting for a table to keep him happy.

These last two kids were also at Dish. They were so relaxed, they must do this every Sunday morning.

water water everywhere

It's been quite a while since my last post, and I have lots of catching up to do... this is a pic of the dock and boat from a small town called Port Orchard. It's just over the Sound and has a cute litte downtown area with antique shops and restaurants. I get lost in these antique shops in finding those old ice cream dishes you remember from grandmas house or the pair of jellies you wades through the creek in as a kid. I found a dresser on Craigslist here and Trae and I boated over to pick it up. We brought a hand truck and wheeled it across the street to this cute little beachy furniture store, and POOF! a new dresser I had. A fun way to transport furniture for sure.

over the weekend

had a fun weekend... explored capitol hill, a neighborhood just east of downtown that is known for it's eclectic crowd. you can find just about anything down there. will and i started at a brewing company called the elysian and had a few beers and dinner. i had the ham and gruyere panini... yum. we ventured to a few other bars which was interrupted by my uncontrollable laughter at an unexpected sight. in between bar stops, we passed some store that was having a get together that included big men in capes dressed as women along with harley guys in leather jackets. all just hanging together and having a good ole' time. (btw - it is not halloween). i forgot for a minute that we were in an extremely gay area and for some reason just could not get it together. will had to walk away with fears of getting beat up for my immature behavior. jenny, if you were there we would have been kicked out of that town. we ended up at a great underground spot called cha cha's. played some foozball and met a new friend that will is going to play soccer with. yay for new friends!

i've also attached a few other pics of some fun weekend things. we had a great breakfast at julia's and blue star cafe in wallingford. this little girl was outside of one of
the restaurants. i couldn't help but get her pic. she was having a blast with her little purses. also went to the university village shopping center where i stumbled upon this treasure. jenny, i picked you up some great belt buckles, keychains, and bracelets.

a cool restroom from a restaurant that i thought jill would like... i know you know that wallpaper! cole & son. there was a wall of paper, a wall of mirror, and then a floating trough style sink in the center of the room. well done in all black and white.

last, but not least is a photo from my drive to work on monday. we got about 2 inches of snow... a big surprise as i stepped off the front porch. having no tv and not paying attention to the news lately calls for some fun surprises. was a true winter wonderland.

drive to work

I've been attempting to capture some images from my drive to work in the morning. It's really hard to get a good snap while driving. These display a small fraction of the beauty that I am so fortunate to be able to see each and every day. On the top is Mount Rainier. This thing comes out of blue and totally surprises me every time. It's almost too big to be true. This doesn't even show the magnitude of it. The photo on the bottom was this morning before work. The full moon (HIGH TIDE!) hovering over the Olympic Mountains was truly a sight to be seen. The sky really was that purpley/blue color. Really amazing in combination with the water of the Puget Sound. I feel so lucky to have such a photo worthy view during my commute each morning and evening. Makes traffic not so bad anymore :)

ballard

Went down to Ballard this past weekend to walk around. They have a market in the streets each and every Sunday which includes handmade soaps, fresh salmon, fruits, vegetables, organic foods of all kinds, handmade gifts and lots of yummy CHEESE! These people like their cheese just like I do (thank god). Samples galore as you stroll through the old cobblestone streets. This guy was strumming some tunes outside of a great little home/gift shop. He almost looks unreal. He had the sweetest, softest voice and was kind enough to pose for a photo. There are several unique gift shops around this neighborhood, one of which (Souvenir) consisted of beautiful handmade cards by an artist name Curtis Steiner and vintage 19th Century buttons. Another shop, Lucca, is made to mimic a 1920's Parisian gift salon. Lots of treasures and a fabulous paperie in the back room. Beautiful letterpress stationary and patterned wrapping papers. I'll definitely be spending more Sundays over there.
